URGENT: Birds Trapped and Dying in St. Catharines, Ontario!

Birds are reportedly becoming trapped behind humane bird-deterrent metal screens, which have fallen into disrepair, apparently installed beneath solar panels at a house on Buckland Street in St. Catharines, Ontario. According to sources nearby, there are at least 8 live birds currently trapped underneath the three solar panels, desperately trying in vain to escape. Reportedly, several dead birds are visible as well. The birds are gaining entry behind the screens but are unable to find a way out. They’re likely suffering horribly as they slowly succumb to stress, starvation, or dehydration.

Sadly, animal control personnel appear to be ignoring the urgency of this situation and have yet to let us know if they have devised a plan to extract the surviving birds or prevent others from becoming trapped and dying. However, officials just need to ensure that the screens are removed by the homeowner in order to secure the welfare of these birds as well as to prevent future tragedy and potential violations of the Migratory Birds Convention Act and the Canada Wildlife Act.

Please call and e-mail Ontario’s Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) and urge it to help the birds on Buckland Street in St. Catherines:
