Hallmark Stops Selling Cards That Hurt Chimpanzees
Following years of pressure from PETA, Hallmark Cards—the largest greeting card company in the world—stopped producing and selling cards featuring degrading images of chimpanzees who were torn away from their mothers as infants. Such images are known to hinder conservation efforts. PETA’s campaign included lively protests, creative ads, heartfelt letters from celebrities such as Judy Greer, and calls and e-mails from over 50,000 of our supporters. Hallmark joins card company American Greetings, stock image agencies such as Shutterstock and Dreamstime, and major retailers such as Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS, which are all banning the use of these irresponsible, damaging images. It was the last major company still selling these demeaning cards. Help other exploited primates by taking rapid action here.
