Dog Experimenter Punished for Fraud
August 2010
After the U.S. government revealed that animal experimenter Gerardo Paez had deliberately falsified data obtained from deadly experiments in which beagle puppies’ eyes were cut out, PETA took action to ensure that Paez could not benefit from this cruelty and fraud. In response to PETA’s requests, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology issued retractions for two of Paez’s studies and the Foundation Fighting Blindness—which partially funded the study— announced that it would prohibit Paez from receiving future funding from its organization.
