PETA Pushes Hard for Police Action in Senior Dog–Beating Case

Despite video evidence reportedly filmed on two days at a local residence, showing a woman lifting an evidently elderly and disabled dog reportedly named Lola by her tail, slapping her with full force, and punching her as the dog yelps in obvious distress, authorities’ position is that no crime was committed. PETA has learned that Lola apparently remains in her abuser’s custody. The international animal rights group is rallying its members and supporters to flood the offices of the Austin Police Department, the Travis County district attorney, the Austin City Council, and City Manager Spencer Cronk with demands for the dog’s rescue.
“These videos show a vulnerable, debilitated dog being tortured, apparently to punish her for being too weak and disabled to hold herself up,” says PETA Senior Vice President of Cruelty Investigations Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA is calling on authorities to separate this victim from her abuser before she endures any further violence.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—notes that Texas’ anti-cruelty statute prohibits causing an animal unjustifiable pain or suffering and urges authorities to review the evidence of abuse again and pursue all appropriate charges.
