Singer Carla Morrison: If You Wouldn’t Wear Your Dog, Don’t Wear Fur

These wise words are from Latin Grammy Award–winning singer-songwriter Carla Morrison, who joined PETA to speak up for animals killed in the fur trade. In the campaign, she reminds everyone that just like dogs and cats, minks, chinchillas, coyotes, and other animals aren’t ours to turn into fur coats, collars, or cuffs. Her request for fans is simple: If you wouldn’t wear your dog, please don’t wear fur.

Every fur coat, lining, or piece of trim represents the immense suffering of animals, whether they were trapped in nature or raised on fur factory farms. Fur factory farms also pose a threat to public health—their cramped, filthy environments are potential breeding grounds for disease. Recently, mink farms across Europe saw spikes in cases of COVID-19, and the virus has now been found on mink farms in over 10 countries around the world.
Even before the pandemic, fur was a failing industry. In recent years, major fashion brands—including Chanel, Prada, Gucci, and Michael Kors—have all agreed to ditch fur. You can help make this violent industry obsolete by refusing to buy or wear fur or fur trim and committing to shopping vegan.
