Decked out in green top hats and tailcoats, PETA supporters will hand out free vegan corned beef sandwiches sandwiches from Veggie Grill this St. Patrick’s Day to promote an “Erin Go Vegan” message at Harvard Square—an animal-friendly spin on the expression Erin go Bragh, meaning “Ireland forever.” PETA members will also pass out vegan starter kits, which offer great tips and tasty recipes for making animal-, Earth-, and health-friendly meals.
When: Wednesday, March 17, 12 noon
Where: Harvard Square (next to the visitors’ information booth), 18 Brattle St., Cambridge
“Going green by eating vegan is the easiest way to become a patron saint for animals,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA’s giveaway will go down well with a pint—on St. Patrick’s Day and every day.”
Each person who goes vegan saves nearly 200 animals every year; reduces their risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity; dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint; and helps prevent future pandemics. SARS, swine flu, bird flu, and COVID-19 all stemmed from confining and killing animals for food.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
