GRAMMY® stars can be kind while keeping warm this year thanks to PETA: The presenters and performers on Music’s Biggest Night® will receive a high-tech, down-free jacket from PETA Business Friend Save the Duck as well as a custom PETA dog leash that reminds people always to adopt and never to buy animals.
“While tired old companies continue to peddle cruel coats made from birds who were violently killed, Save the Duck is dropping the mic with its sustainable feather-free outerwear,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “PETA’s gift set will allow music’s biggest stars to strike a note of compassion for animals and the planet—all while staying on trend.”
Every year, millions of gentle birds are exploited and killed in the down industry, which contributes to greenhouse-gas emissions and wastes natural resources. PETA notes that it requires about 500 gallons of water per pound to raise one duck and that harsh chemicals used to clean their feathers often flow into groundwater, streams, and rivers.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. More information about the down industry is available here. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
