As part of PETA’s Pisces Promo push for Louisville-based Long John Silver’s to become the first major chain to offer faux fish, PETA “mermaids” will give away vegan fish fillets—prepared by Ramsi’s Cafe on the World—outside the chain’s flagship eatery tomorrow.
When: Wednesday, February 24, 12 noon
Where: Long John Silver’s, 2901 Goose Creek Rd., Louisville
“Fish feel pain, are good parents, know how to use tools, and can even create majestic underwater art,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Most burger chains now offer a vegan option, and PETA’s giveaway is designed to net a fish-free entrée at Long John Silver’s.”
Without any legal protections from mistreatment, fish are impaled, crushed, suffocated, or cut open and gutted, all while they’re conscious. Long John Silver’s could show kindness to these animals, keep up with the skyrocketing popularity of vegan dining, and satisfy all its customers with one of the many faux-fish options available today, such as Gardein’s Golden Fishless Filets, May Wah’s Golden Fish Fillets, New Wave Foods’ new plant-based shrimp, and many others.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
