The Chiefs and the Buccaneers have yet to face off in Super Bowl LV, but Kansas City and Tampa Bay can both claim to be home to winners—that is, winners on PETA’s list of Top 10 Vegan Wings. Both the sauce-drenched Vittles Wings from Kansas City’s Topknotch Vegan Vittles and the Drumstick Plate at Tampa’s Vegan International Co. secured the honors, along with dishes from a range of other eateries across the country:

• The Signature Wings at Big Mood in Buffalo, New York
• The Seitan Wings from Double Wide Grill in Pittsburgh
• The Crispy Cauliwings from I-tal Garden in New Orleans
• The Vings from The Wing Bar in Atlanta
• The Dynamite Drumsticks from Something Vegan in Los Angeles
• The Vegan Wings (in BBQ, Buffalo, or sweet Thai sauce) from Refocused Vegan in Baltimore
• The Vegan Wings (in Buffalo, BBQ, diablo, or sweet mustard sauce or dry rub seasoning) from The Green Owl Café in Madison, Wisconsin
• The Vegan Wings at Boss ChicknBeer—and the eatery’s dozen-plus sauces, ranging from Rage Against the BBQ to Wu Tang Glaze—near Cleveland

“Every eatery on PETA’s list is making it easier than ever to enjoy delicious Super Bowl snacks that leave gentle birds in peace,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Whether you’re rooting for the Chiefs or the Buccaneers, the best way to kick off Super Bowl Sunday is with some of these saucy, spicy, and savory vegan wings.”

Every year, hundreds of millions of chickens are killed for the Super Bowl alone. As PETA reveals in its “Chicken in Reverse” video, birds killed for their flesh are crammed by the tens of thousands into filthy sheds and bred to grow such unnaturally large upper bodies that their legs often become crippled under the weight. At the slaughterhouse, their throats are often cut while they’re still conscious, and many are scalded to death in defeathering tanks.

Each person who goes vegan saves nearly 200 animals every year; reduces their risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and obesity; dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint; and helps prevent future pandemics. SARS, swine flu, bird flu, and COVID-19 all stemmed from confining and killing animals for food.

Yard House, a national chain, received an honorable mention for offering delicious vegan wings available with Buffalo or ancho BBQ sauce. Each eatery will receive a framed certificate from PETA, which also offers lists of ready-to-heat wings available at grocery stores and easy vegan game-day recipes on its website.
