Robby Anderson’s New PETA Billboard Urges, ‘Never Chain Your Dogs’

Together with his best canine pal, Fendi, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robby Anderson stars in a brand-new PETA billboard that just went up on I-95 as part of a pair of billboards urging everyone to let dogs live indoors with the rest of the family and never keep them tethered outside.
“I’m just really against that people keep their dogs chained up and outside during storms and hot weather,” Anderson says in an accompanying PETA video, which the group plans to run on local TV. “[D]ogs are meant to be loved. How would you feel to be left on a chain all day long, stuck outside … on a piece of concrete or old grass and dirt? … [T]here’s a lot of unloved dogs and mistreated dogs in the world. … Please don’t leave your dog outside on a chain.”
“A life alone in a yard is no life at all for a dog, who craves the companionship of a family pack and can easily freeze to death when temperatures drop,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA is delighted to have Robby Anderson’s help in encouraging everyone to make dogs part of the team and keep them indoors, where they belong.”
Anderson’s video features footage of “backyard dogs” filmed by PETA’s field team, which provides animals in North Carolina and Virginia with free food, sturdy doghouses and insulating straw bedding, spay/neuter surgeries, and other basic care—all totally free of charge. Breaking the Chain, a new documentary from executive producer Anjelica Huston, follows PETA’s fieldworkers as they visit dogs kept chained outdoors in all weather extremes, confined to the same few square feet of space 24/7. Dogs left outside in the winter have been found suffering from frostbite and exposure and in the summer from heatstroke.
Anderson is part of a growing list of athletes and other celebrities—including Devin Funchess, Cam Newton, Jarvis Landry, Ryan Tannehill, Tyrann Mathieu, Terrell Suggs, and Tony Gonzalez—who’ve teamed up with PETA to promote kindness to animals.

PETA’s Robby Anderson billboard is located right next to the group’s “Cold? Please Take Your Dog Inside” billboard on I-95, near Exit 173 for Roanoke Rapids/Weldon. Another “Cold?” billboard is also now up on I-95 about 0.2 miles south of Exit 160 for Enfield, and PETA plans to place another Robby Anderson billboard along the highway soon.
