PETA’s Pro-Tofu Billboards Target Shoppers

Clean, Cholesterol-Free, Healthy, Versatile Food Makes You Feel Jolly Inside and Out

To reach holiday shoppers and diners—along with those doing some things that they shouldn’t, like heading into town despite the heavily rising number of COVID-19 cases—PETA has placed billboards in Bellmawr, Blackwood, and Westampton, encouraging people to help prevent future pandemics by trying vegan foods like tofu for the holidays and year-round.

“From tofu cheesecake to tofu potpie, PETA will help people taste-test tofu and other vegan goodies with free recipes, tips, mentors, and more,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “And while diseases thrive on filthy factory farms and in slaughterhouses, let’s remember that tofu never caused a pandemic.”

Not only is tofu cheaper than meat, it is also packed with protein, contains zero cholesterol, and can reduce one’s risk of suffering from heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and numerous other life-threatening health issues. COVID-19 is believed to have originated in a Chinese live-animal market, where live and dead animals are sold for food. Influenza viruses have originated in pigs and chickens—but never in vegan foods like tofu.

PETA has a holiday recipe guide along with a variety of delicious tofu-based recipes—such as General Tso’s Tofu and Buffalo Tofu-Scramble Breakfast Tacos—on its website. The group also offers a vegan starter kit filled with more recipes and tips.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview—is also running similar ads in cities including Ann Arbor, Michigan; Leland, North Carolina; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Savannah, Georgia as part of a nationwide campaign. PETA’s billboards are located at I-295 S. (just beyond the Rancocas Road overpass and facing both ways so as to be seen by travelers in each direction) in Westampton, on the North-South Freeway S. (before crossing the New Jersey Turnpike) in Belmawr, and on the North-South Freeway N. (just past Black Horse Pike and facing both ways) in Blackwood.
