Jermaine Dupri, Tyrann Mathieu, and More to Be Honored at PETA’s 40th Anniversary Party

On Saturday, December 12, PETA will mark its 40th anniversary with a virtual, star-studded party to celebrate the group’s four decades of victories for animals and honor the celebrities who have helped make them happen with Humanitarian Awards.
- Mariah Carey will present an award to her longtime pal Jermaine Dupri, who starred in PETA’s “Feel the Beets, Lose the Meats” vegan campaign and hosted a vegan Thanksgiving for people in need in Atlanta last year.
- Super Bowl–winning Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will present teammate Tyrann Mathieu with the award for his efforts to prevent dogs from dying of heatstroke in parked cars in the summer and freezing in backyards in the winter.
- Retired NBA star John Salley will be honored in celebration of his vegan advocacy, which has included hosting PETA’s Veggie Dog Luncheon on Capitol Hill—PETA’s annual answer to a meat-industry event.
- Actor Kat Graham, whose PETA videos encourage everyone to go vegan and fight speciesism—the human-supremacist worldview that animals are ours to exploit and kill at will—will also be recognized.

The event will also include special appearances by Sir Paul McCartney, Joaquin Phoenix, Alec Baldwin, Casey Affleck, Dolly Parton, Pamela Anderson, and Bill Maher.
“Forty years ago, car companies used pigs as crash-test dummies and people thought a vegan was someone from Las Vegas,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “Today, animals in laboratories are being replaced with supercomputers and organs-on-chips, fur is dead, elephants are out of the circus, and the ‘Tiger King’ is in jail.”
