Body-Painted PETA ‘Animals’ to Lead Rally Against Injustice

Painted as a cow, a rabbit, a fox, a goose, and a tiger, a diverse group of PETA supporters will gather in Times Square tomorrow with signs proclaiming, “Reject WHITE Supremacy,” “Reject HETEROSEXUAL Supremacy,” “Reject HUMAN Supremacy,” and “Reject MALE Supremacy.”

The demonstration is part of PETA’s nationwide post-election call to action against speciesism: the damaging human-held belief that other animals are ours to use and abuse. The global pandemic and growing awareness of inequality have prompted a social reckoning—one that PETA says should include a reflection on the deeply disturbing ways in which humans violate other animals in laboratories, slaughterhouses, circuses, and elsewhere.
“PETA is asking everyone to reject human supremacism,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “I am an animal. We are all animals. There aren’t animals and us. There isn’t a human race and all the other races. That’s a supremacist idea, and it should be stamped out, just like all other forms of supremacy.”
PETA encourages everyone to combat speciesism by buying only cosmetics that weren’t tested on animals, choosing vegan food and fashion, staying away from animal circuses, and otherwise rejecting the exploitation of all animals.
