PETA Offers Up to $5,000 Reward for Help in Nabbing Turtle Attacker, Killer

Group Joins Department of Natural Resources in Effort to Bring Animal Abuser to Justice

Delavan, Wis. — A snapping turtle was viciously and fatally attacked—apparently beaten with a golf club—at a sand bunker off Hole 4 North at the Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. on June 10. News sources state that the animal had holes in her shell and was also struck in her right eye. The course superintendent had seen her at about 7:30 a.m. looking for a safe place to lay her eggs. Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the fatal attack on this turtle. That’s why PETA is adding up to $5,000 to the Global Conservation Group of Watertown’s $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this violent crime.

“Animal abusers are cowards,” says PETA Director Martin Mersereau. “They take their issues out on the most defenseless beings available to them. Area residents have good reason to be concerned. According to law-enforcement agencies and leading mental-health professionals, perpetrators of violent acts against animals are often repeat offenders who pose a serious threat to all animals—including humans.”
