PETA to Donate 300 Fur Pieces to Old Town Dixie County Rehabilitator
Clothing Company With Change of Heart Will Keep Baby Animals Warm This Winter

On Thursday, a PETA representative will arrive at Rocky’s Wildlife Rescue in Dixie County bearing hundreds of fur pieces from New York City–based Harper Coats, which, after communications with PETA, decided to reinvent itself as a vegan clothing company.

“Nothing can bring back the animals who suffered when they were killed and robbed of their fur coats, but thanks to the kindness of Harper Coats and Rocky’s Wildlife Rescue, orphaned animals will be kept warm,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA is pleased to help this kind local wildlife rehabber provide for the animals it looks after.”
PETA has conducted many video investigations of the fur industry, revealing that animals on fur factory farms spend their lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages. Fur-takers use the cheapest killing methods available, including neck-breaking, suffocation, poisoning, and genital electrocution. It’s been documented that animals are sometimes still alive and struggling when workers hang them up by their legs or tails to skin them.
The event is part of PETA’s fur donation program, which also gives donated furs to homeless shelters and uses them in educational displays. Donors receive a tax deduction.
