Two Jersey Teams Make PETA’s List of Vegetarian-Friendly Minor League Parks

Lakewood BlueClaws, Trenton Thunder Are Batting a Thousand When It Comes to Offering Health-Conscious Fans Top-Shelf Eats

Trenton, N.J. — Baseball might be the national pastime, but vegetarian dishes could soon be the national food if the offerings at baseball games are any indication. That’s why PETA has ranked the Top 10 Most Vegetarian-Friendly Minor League Ballparks, and two New Jersey venues—ARM & HAMMER Park, home of the Trenton Thunder, and FirstEnergy Park, home of the Lakewood BlueClaws—have placed third and fifth, respectively.

“The more fans learn about the health benefits of eating vegan foods, the more they ask for delicious meat-free options,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “Going vegetarian is like pulling off a triple play: You protect your health, help keep the environment clean, and save animals’ lives.”

Topping the health- and animal-friendly options at ARM & HAMMER Park are the veggie burger, veggie dog, meat-free chili, mushroom and grilled-vegetable sandwich, and baked potato with broccoli. When the mercury spikes, the fruit sorbet with strawberries, blueberries, mangos, and bananas to mix in is the perfect answer. In addition to veggie burgers and hot dogs, BlueClaws fans can feast on a meat-free taco, a Portobello mushroom sandwich, and even Oreos, which are vegan!

Taking top honors this year was the Tulsa Drillers‘ ONEOK Park, thanks to selections such as a veggie burger on a pretzel bun, tofu-noodle entrée, bean burrito, and tofu burrito. Rounding out the lineup of top 10 finishers are Durham Bulls Athletic Park (Durham Bulls), Parkview Field (Fort Wayne TinCaps), Isotopes Park (Albuquerque Isotopes), Fifth Third Field (Dayton Dragons), PK Park (Eugene Emeralds), Raley Field (Sacramento River Cats), and AutoZone Park (Memphis Redbirds).

Grabbing top honors in the majors for the sixth time in the last seven years is Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
