West Palm Beach, Fla. – A group of PETA members—including one dressed as a giant “lobster”—will descend on Linda Bean’s Delray Beach restaurant on Tuesday to protest the cruelty to animals recently uncovered at Bean’s crustacean slaughterhouse in Maine. The group will screen video from the PETA undercover investigation, which revealed that workers at the slaughterhouse routinely break off conscious crabs’ top shells with sharp spikes before forcing their exposed organs and flesh against rapidly spinning, stiff-bristled brushes—all while they’re alive and able to feel pain, a violation of Maine’s cruelty-to-animals statute.
When: Tuesday, September 24, 12 noon
Where: Linda Bean’s Perfect Maine Lobster Roll, 200 E. Atlantic Ave. (at the intersection with N.E. Second Avenue), Delray Beach
“Linda Bean’s customers would be horrified to learn that the lobsters in her slaughterhouse are decapitated, torn apart, and left to die slowly and in agony,” says PETA Senior Vice President of Cruelty Investigations Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA has called on Maine authorities to investigate this clear cruelty to animals—and we’re calling on diners to stay far away from Linda Bean’s restaurants.”
