PETA Offers up to $5,000 Reward for Help in Nabbing Dog Beater

Group Joins Alachua County Animal Services, Gainesville Police Department in Effort to Bring Animal Abuser to Justice

Gainesville, Fla. — On September 12, three children reportedly witnessed an unidentified man viciously choke and beat a dog at The Polos apartment complex, leaving the brown Labrador retriever mix with a deep gash on her head, a skull fracture, and internal injuries. The dog is recovering from her wounds at Alachua County Animal Services, but Gainesville police have yet to identify the perpetrator, whom the witnesses describe as a white male between 5 feet10 inches and 6 feet tall with brown hair, a medium build, and a tattoo between his shoulder blades. 

That’s why PETA is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this crime.

“It’s imperative that the police find this person, who apparently choked and beat a dog until her skull cracked—all while three children were watching,” says PETA Director Martin Mersereau. “Gainesville residents have good cause to be concerned. According to leading mental-health professionals, perpetrators of violent acts against animals are often repeat offenders who pose a serious threat to all animals—including humans.”
