New PETA TV Ads Seek Charges in Cruelty-to-Bear Case

Through mid-November, FOX 43 will air a new PETA ad calling for cruelty charges in the case of Dillan, a bear who suffered from obesity and painful dental disease for years at the Union County Sportsmen’s Club in Millmont before he was rescued following a PETA campaign earlier this year.
This latest salvo in PETA’s campaign directly appeals to Gov. Tom Wolf to ensure that Dillan’s abusers are held accountable. Radio ads with the same message are running on HOT 106.7 and NASH 93.5 through the end of the month, and billboards calling on Wolf to take action on Dillan’s behalf have been up since early September.
“Dillan suffered in agony as his teeth rotted away inside his mouth, and the Union County Sportsmen’s Club didn’t lift a finger to stop it,” says PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel for Captive Animal Law Enforcement Brittany Peet. “PETA wants Pennsylvania officials to enforce state law and hold this bear’s abusers accountable for knowingly neglecting him for years.”
Dillan now lives at The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado, in a naturalistic habitat where he’s able to roam; spend time with his new best friend, a rescued bear named Lily; and hibernate. His health is improving, and he no longer exhibits abnormal behavior indicative of physical pain and mental anguish.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. More information about Dillan is available here.
