Washington — When a group of vegans—including brothers Justin and Jared Goodman, who work for PETA and the PETA Foundation, respectively—decided to splurge on some luxury seats at a recent Nationals game, they weren’t disappointed: After learning that the entire party was vegan, the Nationals’ director of guest services, Jonathan Stahl, worked with Levy Restaurants, which serves the park, and executive sous chef Eric Butler to provide a banquet of specially prepared vegan food, including edamame dip with homemade potato chips, two huge bowls of spicy chili, sautéed broccoli, curry potatoes with hearts of palm, and a fresh, crisp salad.
For going above and beyond to make a group of baseball-loving vegans feel right at home, Nationals Park and Levy Restaurants will receive a framed Certificate of Appreciation and a box of vegan chocolates from PETA.
“If anyone in our party wasn’t a Nats fan before, they are now,” Jared Goodman says. “Nationals Park and Levy Restaurants made our outing one that we’ll always remember—and proved once again that going vegan is the ticket to some of the most delicious food on the planet.”
This isn’t the first time that PETA has recognized Nationals Park for its exceptional vegan fare. Just three months ago, the park was named second runner-up in PETA’s rankings of the 2013 Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Major League Ballparks. PETA has also previously given Levy Restaurants a High Octane Award for its delicious vegan food options.
Baseball fans who go vegan not only do their bodies—and their taste buds—a favor but also save the lives of more than 100 animals every year and dramatically reduce their carbon footprint.
