Yandy.com’s new “Tiger Queen” costume hasn’t stopped preorders for PETA’s “Tiger King Killer” costume from going through the roof. The group is having to work hard to meet the demand for blond mullet wigs, mustaches, jail bars, and orange jumpsuits—all reminders that “Joe Exotic” is a felon, a tiger killer, and the villain of Tiger King.
“There’s nothing glamorous about stealing tiger cubs from their mothers, exploiting them as living photo props, or shooting and killing them,” says PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel for Captive Animal Law Enforcement Brittany Peet, who appears in the docuseries. “PETA’s ‘Tiger Killer’ costumes are flying off the shelves, because smart Tiger King TV show fans know that ‘Joe Exotic’ belongs behind bars, not in a bodysuit.”
PETA has been working for years to shut down facilities like those shown on Tiger King. The group rescued nearly 50 animals from Joe Exotic’s custody, all of whom are now thriving at reputable sanctuaries. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has filed a federal Animal Welfare Act complaint against his former business partner, fellow Tiger King subject Jeff Lowe, and PETA recently prevailed in a lawsuit against another Tiger King subject, Tim Stark, resulting in a court order to move all the big cats on his property to reputable facilities.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
