PETA’s ‘Crying Orca’ to SeaWorld: ‘Lay Off the Animals, Not the Workers!’
Group Will Call On Beleaguered Abusement Park to Save Itself by Sending Animals to Seaside Sanctuaries

Following reports that SeaWorld is permanently laying off hundreds of employees, a “crying orca” will lead PETA supporters—all wearing masks and practicing social distancing—in a protest calling on the abusement park to let the animals go, not its workers.

“SeaWorld is laying off its struggling workers instead of releasing the miserable animals who would do anything to get out of the small tanks,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is telling SeaWorld that the solution to its financial woes is to reinvent itself as a profitable amusement park with rides and other animal-free attractions only.”
Following a vigorous PETA campaign, SeaWorld had to stop breeding orcas—but it’s still breeding belugas and bottlenose dolphins (sometimes forcibly after drugging them), and all the marine mammals at its parks are confined to small concrete tanks. PETA is calling on SeaWorld to end its breeding programs and develop seaside sanctuaries.
