Empathy-Building Stories Teach Kids How to Relate to the Smallest, ‘Strangest’ Among Us
‘The Good Kid Project’ Has Partnered With PETA’s Humane Education Division

As many parents and educators plan to teach kids at home this fall, TeachKind—PETA’s humane education division—has partnered with The Good Kid Project, whose We’re All Animals box set of stories promotes compassion for animals, comes with lesson plans, and is illustrated by celebrated children’s book author Ruby Roth.
“Each story in We’re All Animals helps kids develop skills in reading comprehension, critical thinking, and empathy,” says PETA Senior Director of Youth Programs Marta Holmberg. “TeachKind and PETA are delighted to get these stories into the hands of parents and teachers to foster compassion for animals in the next generation.”
In one of the We’re All Animals stories, a group of children are in a car stopped at a red light when they spot a truck full of cows. The kids talk about how the cows look scared—and are proud to discover that they’re all planning to eat plant-based foods, like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, for lunch.
TeachKind offers free lesson plans, classroom materials, teacher workshops, and more to help educators add compassion for animals to their curriculum. Its staff is even available to host virtual classroom presentations for students—for free. Other remote learning resources include reading comprehension exercises (for grades K–12), lessons about pronouns (for grades K–2 or 3–5), and its “Share the World” kit, which includes an online video and is appropriate for even the youngest learners.
