Herons, Opossums, Dogs—PETA Will Help Any Animal in Need Even in a Pandemic
Even during the pandemic, countless animals need PETA’s help every day. But with summer comes dangerously high temperatures and breeding season for wildlife, putting many animals in harm’s way. PETA’s field team was busy in June 2020, as always—aiding wildlife, delivering lifesaving doghouses, spaying and neutering, providing suffering animals with a peaceful end, and much more.
Just like us, animals want to live free from agony, loneliness, and neglect. They need and deserve safety and the comfort of family. It’s often the case that the only loving touch some ever receive is provided by PETA—along with food and clean water.
Here are some real-life stories from our field team about their work for animals just last month:
No matter the time of year, PETA performs vital spay/neuter surgeries to help combat overpopulation.
Spaying and neutering makes a big difference: Just one unaltered female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in only six years. In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can produce 370,000 kittens!
We rescued these animals from terrible neglect and abuse.
No one deserves to spend life trapped on a chain or inside a cramped pen. PETA’s field team took in numerous neglected animals this month who are now ready for their shot at a loving home. Some have already found a new family.
Dogs forced to spend every minute of every day and night outside in deadly summer heat need—at a minimum—water and proper shelter at all times.
It’s often the case that dogs we visit have only dilapidated pieces of trash or nothing at all to protect them from the elements.
PETA helped end the constant pain and agony of animals who were barely holding on.
For suffering animals on the brink of death, euthanasia is a desperately needed kindness. Almost daily, we find animals suffering from deadly diseases like heartworm or horrendous infections and debilitating tumors. In other cases, elderly guardians without the means to get end-of-life care for their animals come to us for help. We are there for them in those emotionally overwhelming times.
PETA never turns away an animal in need of love and care.
You, Too, Can Make a Difference for Animals
When you see animal abuse, please, always try to stop it or at least report it. Remember: Adopt, don’t shop—and have your animal companions spayed or neutered. You could also volunteer at your local animal shelter or rescue center and ask local government officials how you can help get laws passed that would require animal care standards and ban tethering, breeding, and the selling of animals in pet shops.
