PETA Statement on Dallas Seavey’s Return to the Iditarod

Below, please find a statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in response to reports that disgraced musher Dallas Seavey has signed up for the 2021 Iditarod—his first since his dog-doping scandal in 2017:

Perhaps Dallas Seavey epitomizes the Iditarod, since his dogs have tested positive for opioids, a veteran musher has accused his kennels of killing dogs who don’t make the grade, and a whistleblower has reported finding sick dogs and dying puppies on his property. By welcoming Seavey back, the race has declared that no scandal is too great and no musher too cruel.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview.
