Donating This Easter? Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Support March of Dimes
During the Easter season, many conscientious people choose to donate to charities such as Easterseals or March of Dimes. But you may be surprised to learn that there’s one big difference between these two organizations. March of Dimes still funds cruel experiments on animals, while Easterseals does not. So your choice is easy!
March of Dimes Did WHAT to Kittens?
March of Dimes’ website claims that it “leads the fight for the health of all moms and babies.” However, experimenters funded by the March of Dimes previously took newborn kittens from their mothers, sewed their eyes shut, left them like that for a year, and then killed the animals—all to show that depriving cats of normal vision alters brain development, which is already a long-accepted scientific fact. Did these babies not deserve to have a loving bond with their mothers?
March of Dimes has also funded numerous recent studies using mice and rats—after which the animals are killed and callously discarded. In one 2018 study that the organization helped pay for, mice were injected with breast cancer cells and forced to endure discomfort as they developed tumors that grew for weeks—even though experiments on animals fail to lead to treatments for humans at least 90% of the time.
It’s speciesist to believe that mother cats, mice, and rats don’t nurture and care for their babies. Animals trapped in labs can feel the same emotions as the cats and dogs with whom we lovingly share our homes.
