Just in time for National Burrito Day (April 2)—and to encourage people to support local restaurants through takeout and delivery methods during COVID-19 quarantines—PETA has compiled a list of some of the Top Vegan Burritos from restaurants around the country, and Mr. Natural‘s Vegan Fajita Burrito nabbed a spot. The fan favorite is a flour tortilla stuffed with Mexican brown rice, seasoned beans, sautéed seitan strips, and plenty of fajita-seasoned mushrooms, peppers, and other veggies.
“By treating yourself to Mr. Natural’s Vegan Fajita Burrito, you support a local business while fighting cruelty to animals and human health problems on a global scale,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “As 75% of influenza viruses—and the coronavirus—are linked to animal agriculture, preventing future pandemics is as simple as opting for a delicious vegan burrito over a meaty one.”
Health authorities confirm that influenza viruses and coronaviruses are zoonotic (transmissible from other animals to humans)—and filthy farms and markets crammed full of sick animals are breeding grounds for such deadly maladies. Previous influenza viruses have originated in chickens and pigs. Each person can help cut off animal-borne pathogens at the source—and save the lives of nearly 200 animals each year—by going vegan.
Other honorees include the Big Vegan Burrito with Pollo Asado from Cena Vegan in Los Angeles; the Vegan Steak Burrito from Vegos in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and the Fish Tuna Burrito from El Cantaro in Monterey, California. View the full list here.
