Video: Rescuers Remove Metal From Limping Cow’s Hoof

This PETA video, released today, shows an emergency response team from the India-based animal protection organization Animal Rahat (“rahat” means “relief”) helping a mother cow who was limping through Solapur city streets with a metal wire embedded in her hoof.

As the video shows, the cow was limping in pain and a little afraid—but her rescuers were able to sedate her so that they could gently remove the piece of metal, sanitize her wound, and administer a painkiller. Then, they reunited her with her calf, who was eager to return to nursing.

“All it took was a little patience, kindness, and know-how to get this mother cow back on all four of her feet,” says Animal Rahat Chief Operating Officer Dr. Naresh Chandra Upreti. “Animal Rahat hopes her story inspires people around the world to keep an eye out for animals in need—and do whatever it takes to help them.”

Animal Rahat is run by a dedicated staff that includes veterinarians, veterinary assistants, animal caretakers, and a community educator. Its efforts in behalf of animals include rescuing those who’ve fallen into deep wells, providing working animals with food and veterinary care, saving orphaned wildlife, and more.
