Actor, comedian, and vegan chef Angela Means, known for her iconic portrayal of Felicia in the movie Friday, celebrated turning 50 by posing in the buff—and she invited PETA to the shoot for an exclusive video interview to discuss why she went vegan and opened her restaurant, Jackfruit Cafe.
“Jackfruit Cafe was born in a little doughnut shop in the hood,” she says. “My home comedy club was there, so when I was able to come and help a Black community, that’s the one that I went back to.” And the response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive: “What is phenomenal is when my people come, and they tiptoe in, and they’ve lost a few toes to diabetes, and they’re there because they have to be there, and then they taste it and go, ‘This is good!’” she laughs. “I’m like, yeah, you don’t have to eat meat!”
Each person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals every year and dramatically reduces their risk of suffering from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity.
Means is part of a long list of celebrities—including Jade Novah, Mýa, Dawn Richard, RZA, Kimberly Elise, and many others—who’ve teamed up with PETA to promote healthy vegan meals.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—is a social justice organization opposed to racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
