Because Congress allows only water or milk to be consumed on the Senate floor, PETA will give away a variety of vegan milks at the impeachment trial at the Capitol today.
When: Friday, January 24, 12 noon
Where: Outside the Capitol (near the Visitor Center), First Street S.E., Washington
Senate rules don’t explicitly limit the milk to cow’s milk—so PETA will be distributing the dairy-free options to anyone who is looking for a healthier alternative that is kind to cows and the planet.
“The jury is not still out on the deleterious effects of cow’s milk both on cows and the people who drink it,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA encourages everyone to ‘impeach’ dairy and choose delicious vegan milks made from coconuts, almonds, oats, soy, and other plants.”
In today’s dairy industry, cows are artificially inseminated (raped via an inserted syringe) and calves are torn away from their loving mothers within a day of birth. According to the United Nations, animal agriculture is responsible for nearly a fifth of human-induced greenhouse-gas emissions and a global shift to vegan eating is vital if we are to combat the worst effects of climate change.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
