With Super Bowl LIV just days away, PETA is throwing a flag on old-school meaty game-day fare with a giant pro-chicken billboard that urges people to “play nice” by opting for vegan wings and other animal-friendly halftime treats.
“Chickens are wonderful, gentle birds, yet last year, hundreds of millions of them were killed for Super Bowl snacks alone,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is asking fans to let chickens keep their wings and to tuck into spicy Buffalo cauliflower bites, loaded vegan nachos, and other tasty vegan snacks instead.”
In today’s meat industry, chickens are crammed by the tens of thousands into filthy sheds and bred to grow such unnaturally large upper bodies that their legs often become crippled under the weight. At the slaughterhouse, their throats are cut, often while they’re still conscious, and many are scalded to death in defeathering tanks. Each person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals every year.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—notes that vegan wings are available at numerous local eateries, including Roots n Seeds Cantina, Full Bloom, and Yard House, and that there are countless options nationwide.
The billboard is located at 18615 W. Dixie Hwy., less than half a mile from Buffalo Wild Wings.
PETA opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview that fosters violence toward other animals. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
