In honor of Valentine’s Day (February 14) and Spay Day U.S.A. (February 25), PETA’s fleet of mobile clinics is offering a special deal throughout the entire month: Each dog sterilization will cost just $40, while spay surgeries for companion female cats will cost $20 each—and companion male cats will be neutered for free. The clinics will visit numerous cities across the Hampton Roads region—and as a special treat on Valentine’s Day, the first 30 guardians will receive a delicious Chocolate “Love” Card from Schokolat.
Appointments are required. They can be made by calling PETA at 757-622-PETA (7382), extension 3, or online here.
“Spaying and neutering is the key to fixing the homeless-animal overpopulation crisis at the root,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “This February, PETA will show companion animals some love by giving them a happier, healthier future—and help prevent countless more animals from being born into a world that’s already bursting at the seams with unwanted ones.”
More than 231,000 dogs and cats were admitted to animal shelters across Virginia in 2018 alone, and thousands of them had to be euthanized—many simply for lack of good homes. Every year, countless other animals are abandoned to fend for themselves outdoors, where they may freeze, be hit by cars, or endure abuse. That’s why PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—urges people to adopt animals from a local shelter and to have them spayed or neutered.
Spaying and neutering also prevents several reproductive health issues and can lead to longer and happier lives. PETA’s mobile clinics have sterilized nearly 175,000 companion animals since the program’s inception in 2001—including 12,561 in 2019 alone—preventing the births of hundreds of thousands of unwanted kittens and puppies.
