PETA Joins Search for Juvenile Who Swung Dog From Leash, Slammed Animal to the Ground

On the afternoon of December 15, a male teenager wearing a dark hoodie was reportedly caught on a home security camera chasing a small dog down a vacant lot on Franklin Street near Millikin Woods Park before throwing rocks at the animal, spinning the animal above his head from a leash, and slamming him or her onto the ground. The teenager is then shown walking away with the dog.
Although police are investigating, they have yet to identify the perpetrator. That’s why PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the conviction on cruelty-to-animals charges of the person who abused this dog, as well as the animal’s whereabouts so that he or she can receive veterinary treatment as needed.

“This little dog is in danger every minute he or she spends at the hands of this violent person,” says PETA Senior Director of Cruelty Casework Stephanie Bell. “PETA is calling on anyone with information to come forward immediately so that the dog can hopefully be rescued and the abuser stopped from hurting anyone else.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—advises guardians to keep their animal companions safe indoors and not to leave them unattended or allow them to roam free outside, where they may be stolen or injured. Guardians should also be sure to have their animal companions spayed or neutered in order to help control the number of homeless dogs and cats, who are at risk of contracting communicable diseases, being hit by cars, and being abused by cruel humans.
