For dishing up delicious vegan food that’s satisfying diners from coast to coast, Dunkin’ and Baskin-Robbins have been named winners of PETA’s 14th annual Libby Awards. “Libby” is short for “liberation”—as in “animal liberation”—and the awards recognize the most powerful players on the animal rights scene, as determined by thousands of young voters.
Dunkin’ took home the title of Most Vegan-Friendly Restaurant Chain for its popular new breakfast sandwich featuring Beyond Meat vegan sausage patties (order without the cheese and egg to make it vegan). Baskin-Robbins scooped up the Best Vegan Ice Cream award for its creamy Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor, which was released in July following years of discussions with PETA.
“Dunkin’ and Baskin-Robbins are leading the way when it comes to superb vegan options that are readily available and reliably delicious,” says PETA Senior Director of Youth Programs Marta Holmberg. “PETA is recognizing them for helping animals and the environment with exciting new grab ‘n’ go vegan treats.”
Other nominees for Most Vegan-Friendly Restaurant Chain included UNO Pizzeria & Grill, Blaze Pizza, and Carl’s Jr., which released the Beyond Famous Star burger earlier this year. Other Best Vegan Ice Cream nominees included flavors from Hudsonville, Oatly, and Whole Foods 365 Everyday Value. Each award winner will receive a framed certificate.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview that fosters violence toward other animals. For more information, please visit PETA.org or click here.
