Covered with “blood” and with their limbs caught in “metal traps,” a group of PETA supporters wearing parkas emblazoned with the group’s spoof Canada Goose logo will descend on Nordstrom on Thursday to urge the retailer to end its sales of Canada Goose coats and all other fur items. The protest follows the release of PETA’s first-ever exposé of the Russian fur trade, which reveals that workers electrocuted chinchillas and hacked off rabbits’ heads while they were still conscious, among other horrors.

Where:    Outside Nordstrom, 225 W. 57th St., New York City

When:    Thursday, December 5, 12 noon

“Every fur coat, collar, and cuff represents the suffering, torment, and death of sensitive animals who valued their own lives,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is urging Nordstrom to give some peace to animals by joining the majority of the fashion world in going fur-free.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—notes that Canada Goose jackets are made using the fur of coyotes who are trapped in the wild and shot, bludgeoned, or killed in other violent ways. Ducks and geese used for the jackets’ down are shipped to slaughterhouses, where it is standard practice to stun them, cut their throats, and dunk their bodies into defeathering tanks.

PETA opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
