Canada Goose Sample Letter
[Month XX, 20XX]
Dear [Department Store Name],
I was disappointed to see Canada Goose parkas, which are stuffed with down and trimmed with fur, being sold in your store. That company continues to support the violent killing of animals for the fur and feathers used in its outerwear, despite being aware of the suffering that coyotes and geese endure.
Canada Goose brags about using fur from wild-caught coyotes—but what the company neglects to mention is that its standards are so lax that they would allow for coyotes to languish for days in steel traps with lacerations and broken bones before they’re shot or bludgeoned to death. Trapped animals can also succumb to exposure, blood loss, infection, or attacks by predators, and they may even self-mutilate in a desperate attempt to escape.
Down-filled items are the result of the suffering of ducks and geese. Birds used for their feathers are inevitably sent to the slaughterhouse, where standard practice is to hang them upside down, stun them, and then slit their throats—often while they’re still conscious—before their feathers are stuffed into jackets. No matter which supplier a company uses, all down comes from birds who are eventually killed in a violent way.
It’s time for Canada Goose to join popular outerwear makers like Hemp Tailor, Wuxly Movement, For All Kind, and Save the Duck and embrace superior, cruelty-free materials that no one had to die for.
I urge [Department Store Name] to stop offering Canada Goose’s parkas until that company stops supporting the violent deaths of animals. Will you please respond by [Month XX]? [Optional: I’m taking action to inform the public about the cruelty in every stitch of Canada Goose’s clothing in places where its outerwear is sold, and I’d love to cross your store off my list.]
Sincerely,
