The results are in for PETA’s 2019 ranking of the top 10 vegan-friendly cities in the U.S.—and Nashville has won the number eight spot on the list for its array of animal-free fare available all over the city.
“From delis to bars and everything in between, Nashville’s varied vegan food scene is music to kind people’s ears,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “The number of American vegans grew by 600% in just three years, and the cities on PETA’s list are meeting the skyrocketing demand for animal-friendly fare.”
Nashville’s vegan dining options have reached a fever pitch this year, and dishes such as The Southern V’s “Nashville” Hot Chick’n Sandwich with crispy seitan and chipotle mayo; Butcher & Bee’s tender Fire Roasted Carrots served with coconut cream, peanuts, and sambal onions; and Vege-licious’ V-Licious Taters smothered in house-made dairy-free cheese and black-eyed pea salsa are taking center stage. The BE-Hive deli market offers a spread of meat-free meats that can also be found in dishes around the city, from the Pineapple Jalapeño Brat at The Fox Bar & Cocktail Club to the French Quarter Dip at The Wild Cow. And those wanting an encore can indulge in seasonal, dairy-free ice cream flavors such as Dutch Apple Pie at KOKO’s or the whiskey made from quinoa at Corsair Distillery—and next year, Bob Dylan’s premium vegan whiskey will also be flowing at a new distillery in town.
The other cities on PETA’s list are San Francisco; Los Angeles; New York City; Portland, Oregon; Detroit; Orlando, Florida; Dallas; Washington, D.C.; and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
