Disoriented, exhausted pelicans who were rescued by PETA during Hurricane Dorian last month and taken to Tidewater Rehabilitation & Environmental Education have been restored to health and will be released back into the wild this Sunday, near the bridge where they were rescued.
When: Sunday, October 6, 12 noon
Where: Lynnhaven Inlet Boat Ramp, Virginia Beach
“These lucky pelicans weathered a terrifying ordeal, and now they’re returning to their natural habitat, where they’ll be free to fly, dive deep, and just be pelicans,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “Natural disasters endanger wildlife and companion animals alike, which is why PETA asks everyone to always keep an eye out for animals who may need help.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview—offers public service announcements regarding hurricane preparedness (available here) and tips for living in harmony with wildlife, here.
