On July 2, a dead pit bull who reportedly had injuries consistent with those sustained in dogfighting was discovered on Industrial Drive, the latest in an apparent string of dead or injured dogs to be dumped in that area within the past few years. The dog was male, brown with a black muzzle, and approximately 1 to 2 years old.
Although police are investigating, they have yet to determine who’s behind the death and dumping of this dog. That’s why PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty-to-animals charges of the person or persons responsible for this crime.
“This poor dog’s horrific injuries could signify an active dogfighting operation in the area, which means that dangerous people and more dead or injured animals are still out there,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone with information about this case or any possible dogfighting activity in the community to come forward immediately so that those responsible can be held accountable and stopped before they hurt anyone else.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—advises guardians to keep their animal companions safe indoors and not to leave them unattended or allow them to roam free outdoors, where they may be injured or stolen and abused by cruel humans.
Anyone with information about this case should call Rock Hill Police Department Detective Olson at 803-326-2420.
