A month from today, PETA will host its “Pints, Pups, Sips, and Snips” event at O’Connor Brewing Co. The pups won’t be drinking, but prospective adopters and well-wishers will be at Poochella Pups Party with the aim of placing dogs from several local animal shelters with loving guardians.
In addition to the sweet pups seeking homes, there will be delicious vegan food, local craft vendors, and live music—and, of course, refreshing craft beers will be flowing all afternoon.
When: Saturday, August 10, 12 noon–3 p.m. (adoption); 3–6 p.m. (live music)
Where: O’Connor Brewing Co., 211 W. 24th St., Norfolk
“This special day should be a fun affair for both two- and four-legged attendees alike,” says Bellis, PETA’s manager of local affairs. “PETA hopes to kick off a fabulous party as well as the rest of these dogs’ lives at this year’s Poochella event.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview that allows dogs to be chained in a backyard for life as cheap burglar alarms and abandoned at shelters like used bicycles. The group will also have two mobile spay/neuter clinics operating at the event. Advance appointments are required and can be made online at PETA.org/SpayNeuterAppt or by calling 757-622-7382 and selecting option 3.
