PETA Urges Spring Green to Ban Breeding Mills for Laboratories
Proposed Facility That Would Breed Dogs for Use in Experiments May Contaminate Surrounding Area and Water Sources

PETA is urging Spring Green officials to pass a proposed ordinance banning facilities that breed and sell animals to laboratories and to prohibit the construction of a proposed dog-breeding operation in Sauk County.
In a letter and report to town officials, PETA veterinarian Dr. Ingrid Taylor notes that confining large numbers of dogs leads to transmission of pathogens, including gastrointestinal parasites that can cause illness in humans, and can contaminate the surrounding environment and water sources with fecal matter. In addition, dogs in breeding facilities are deprived of real homes with playtime, walks, companionship, and other essential activities—and in experiments, they’re subjected to imprisonment as well as painful and invasive procedures. They are deliberately made sick and are poisoned, have heart attacks induced, are subjected to bone fractures, and used in multiple experimental surgeries.
“A laboratory breeding mill in Spring Green would expose the public to disease and sentence countless dogs to a miserable life in a laboratory cage,” says PETA Vice President of Laboratory Investigations Dr. Alka Chandna, Ph.D. “PETA is urging Spring Green officials to block this operation and prevent puppies from being poisoned and cut open in cruel experiments.”
PETA is urging its more than 1,200 local members and supporters to attend the following meetings and speak out against the planned facility.
