Vegan Ice Cream Bars and Soy Milk to be Delivered to Migrant Respite Center
PETA Latino Members Will Pass Out Dairy-Free Sweet Treats and Milk to Families Leaving the Shelter

On Tuesday, PETA Latino members will gather outside the Iglesia Bautista West Brownsville migrant respite center to give away free vegan ice cream bars and soy milk to migrants leaving the shelter and making their way to their next destination in the U.S.
When: Tuesday, July 9, 12 noon–1 p.m.
Where: Outside the Iglesia Bautista West Brownsville migrant respite center, 925 W. St. Charles St., Brownsville
“We hope these refreshing vegan snacks will lift the moods of migrants navigating an extremely difficult situation,” says PETA Latino Communications Specialist Gabriel Ochoa. “PETA Latino looks forward to greeting families with a summer staple that’s creamy, delicious, and kind to mother cows and their calves.”
PETA Latino—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way”—notes that dairy-free milks and ice creams are ideal options for anyone who is vegan or suffers from lactose intolerance, a condition that’s common among Hispanics. In addition, nondairy milk is free of saturated animal fat and cholesterol and spares animals immense suffering in the cruel dairy industry, which separates mother cows from their calves soon after birth.
