Two Hero to Animals awards are on their way from PETA to Jaydon Pettipas and Aidan Hart, two local teens who stepped in to save a squirrel who was covered with hardened foam insulation and barely able to move. When Pettipas and Hart came across a small crowd of people watching the imperiled squirrel, they got a crate from a nearby grocery store, placed the animal inside, and called their friends and family for help. Pettipas’ mother arranged for the squirrel to receive veterinary care at the St. George Veterinary Clinic, where the hardened foam was removed before the recovered animal was released back into the wild.
“Thanks to Jaydon Pettipas and Aidan Hart, this squirrel escaped a slow and miserable death by dehydration or starvation,” says PETA Senior Director Marta Holmberg. “PETA hopes that their kindness will inspire people of all ages to step in and take action when an animal is in danger.”
Pettipas and Hart will each receive a framed certificate from PETA, whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
