PETA Helps Rescue Bird Victims of Fuel Spill
When Portsmouth (Virginia) Animal Control contacted PETA for assistance in capturing and cleaning wildlife following a July 16 fuel spill, staffers hurried to help the endangered animals. Working alongside awesome folks from the Virginia Beach SPCA, we were able to capture about 15 geese and 25 ducks who were then taken to local rehabbers and veterinary clinics to be cleaned and vetted.
As this incident reminds us, an oil gusher doesn’t have to be the size of BP’s Gulf disaster to wreak havoc on animals’ habitat. So what can we do? Reduce our dependence on oil—a great way to start is by eating truly “green” vegan foods—and always chip in during any animal emergency.
