PETA supporters will lie nearly naked and “bloody” on a pile of “Canada Goose” coats outside the retailer’s Chicago flagship store on Tuesday. One protester’s leg will be “caught” in a giant “steel trap,” and other demonstrators will hold signs proclaiming, “Canada Goose Kills.”
When: Tuesday, March 26, 12 noon
Where: Outside a Canada Goose store, 800 N. Michigan Ave. (near the intersection of E. Tower Court and E. Chicago Avenue), Chicago
“Trapped coyotes endure a prolonged, painful death—just so that the fur on their backs can be torn off and sold as trim for Canada Goose’s cruelly produced coats,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on kind people to reject animal abuse by refusing to give a single penny to Canada Goose.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—rejects speciesism, which is a supremacist view of the world. Coyotes caught in painful traps can sustain horrific injuries and languish for days before eventually dying of dehydration, starvation, or blood loss. Some are so desperate to escape that they attempt to chew through their own limbs. In addition, birds at Canada Goose’s featured supplier were trampled, suffocated, and crammed into tiny transport cages for a miserable trip to the slaughterhouse.
