LSU Board to Face Protest Over Professor’s Cruel Studies on Birds
PETA Will Demand That School Stop Christine Lattin From Capturing, Tormenting, and Killing Wild Songbirds

What: Brandishing signs proclaiming, “LSU: Stop Tormenting Songbirds,” PETA supporters will descend on the Louisiana State University (LSU) Board of Supervisors meeting on Friday to call on the school to stop Assistant Professor Christine Lattin’s cruel and useless chronic-stress studies on birds.
When: Friday, November 2, 1 p.m.

Since 2008, while at various universities, Lattin has caught wild birds and wounded their legs, frightened them by rattling their cages and restraining them in cloth bags for 30 minutes at a time, fed them crude oil mixed with feed, and subjected them to injections that damaged their adrenal glands. After enduring these experiments, the birds were killed. PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—points out that the results of these studies don’t apply to humans or even to other bird species.
“Christine Lattin is tormenting and murdering birds and pretending that it’s science,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA is calling on LSU to stand up for songbirds and science by ending these horrific experiments.”
