Bob's Big Boy Burger and Character

Bob’s Big Boy May Look Like the 1950s, but Its Vegan Burger Is the Future

When Bob’s Big Boy—one of the most iconic burger chains in the U.S.—decides to serve up a vegan burger, you know that animal liberation is winning like never before.

Bob's Big Boy Character

The 1950s-style diner—which features a statue of a youngster in red-and-white checkered overalls—now offers a vegan burger at its location in Burbank, California, which is open 24 hours a day. Previously, vegans could modify a vegetarian option, but now, they can order a burger that’s vegan as-is.

Elated people everywhere can thank Big Boy server Megan Brophy, who’s been vegan for six years, for encouraging her employer to offer a cruelty-free option. After three years of persistence, she got her wish. The new menu item features a delicious patty from U.S-based vegan meat brand Hungry Planet. PETA knows how delectable the company’s burgers are, because we’ve used them to create jaw-dropping vegan Big Macs.

Brophy hopes that if enough vegans and curious meat-eaters flock to Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank to try the new burger, the chain will put it in its restaurants across the country. So get to it, Burbank burger connoisseurs!

Cows, pigs, chickens, and other animals killed for meals at chain restaurants need us to use our voices and take action now.

In 2018, humans are opening their eyes and realizing that other animals aren’t “products” to be consumed. Urge Domino’s, McDonald’s, KFC, Applebee’s, Sonic Drive-In, Chili’s, Panda Express, and Einstein Bros. Bagels to open their eyes, too. Send these restaurants messages to tell them that you want vegan options:
