North Carolina Woman Pleads Guilty to Starving Her Dog to Death

In 2016, a PETA fieldworker doing a routine visit to a property in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, found a dog named Krystal deceased on the end of her chain. Nearly two years later, the case was finally heard in court, and Krystal’s owner pleaded guilty to one count of cruelty to animals for starving her to death. She was sentenced to two years’ supervised probation (during which time she cannot own or reside with animals), 45 days in jail (suspended), and restitution to PETA for medical expenses for three surviving dogs who had been seized from the property.
