What: Armed with signs proclaiming, “Shout It Out: SeaWorld Kills,” a group of PETA supporters will descend on SeaWorld Orlando’s Seven Seas Food Festival on Sunday, when Hanson is scheduled to perform, despite having been sent an online petition, a fundraiser, and even a cake asking the band to cancel the show.
When: Sunday, March 11, 4 p.m.
Where: At the intersection of Sea World Drive and Central Florida Parkway, Orlando
“Hanson’s loyal fans who care about animals would follow Isaac, Taylor, and Zac just about anywhere—except SeaWorld, where orcas are kept inside tiny concrete tanks and denied everything that’s natural and important to them,” says PETA Associate Director of Youth Campaigns Rachelle Owen, a Hanson super-fan who helped to organize outreach efforts to the band. “We’re asking Hanson to cancel this show and join PETA in calling for SeaWorld to release these animals into sea sanctuaries, where they’d finally have a taste of freedom.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—notes that Barenaked Ladies, Cheap Trick, Heart, Willie Nelson, REO Speedwagon, and numerous other bands canceled performances at SeaWorld after learning about the park’s history of premature orca deaths.
