Urge Vestavia Hills to Stop Killing Coyotes!

Reportedly, Vestavia Hills, Alabama, has hired a contractor to set steel-jaw traps throughout the city with the misguided intention of reducing coyote populations. However, such lethal initiatives are 100 percent ineffective, as survivors breed in order to replace lost pack members while more coyotes move in from outlying areas to make use of the available resources. Furthermore, animals caught in these medieval devices (including the padded/rubber-coated or offset varieties) can sustain horrific injuries in their frantic attempts to escape, even chewing or twisting off their own limbs. Killing also tears wild families apart, leaving orphaned young ones to starve. And steel-jaw traps are wholly indiscriminate, posing risks to companion animals and “nontarget” wildlife—including protected species. In fact, news sources indicate that a local cat was recently caught and injured in one of these devices. PETA informed Vestavia Hills officials of the cruelty and futility of this plan and advised them regarding humane coyote-control methods, but so far, we have received no assurances that traps will be removed. Now, it’s your turn!

Using the following e-mail addresses, please politely urge Vestavia Hills’ mayor and city council to scrap this cruel initiative—then forward this alert to everyone you know!
